North Korean hackers are suspected of stealing greater than $351 million from the servers of cryptocurrency change Bitget throughout a cyberattack on Thursday.

The cyberattack is the newest in an ongoing spate of high-profile hacks focusing on the crypto sector. It’s additionally the most important recognized heist of digital forex this 12 months, eclipsing a $340 million hack in September that noticed the hacker returning all however $47 million of the stolen funds.

In a sequence of posts on X on Thursday and Friday, Bitget mentioned the breach concerned the unauthorized switch of crypto from its scorching wallets, that are related to the web and designed for use for lively buying and selling. Bitget has since suspended crypto withdrawals on its community. The corporate mentioned it has $464 million in its consumer safety fund, which ought to cowl the prices of the theft.

Bitget chief government Gracy Chen mentioned the breach and heist was “extremely according to recognized patterns of North Korean hacker organizations.” Such collectives have been linked to crypto thefts and have been suspected of focusing on open supply software program to mass-hack victims with the goal of funding the nation’s nuclear weapons program.
